Abstract
Abstract-Osuyutang was composed of four crude drugs; Evodiae Fructus, Ginseng Radix, Zingiberis Rhizoma and Zizyphi Fructus. In oriental herbal medicine, Osuyutang was known to be effective in the treatment of headache, gastritis, enteritis, hepatitis, uremia, diarrhea, vomiting and so on.
To evaluate the clinical usefulness of Osuyutang for the diseases, experiments were conducted for the effects of stomach, intestine, isolated intestine and sedative actions.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) The pentobarbital-Na induced sleeping time was prolonged in mice, but muscle relaxation was not observed. 2) Small intestinal transport and diarrhea were inhibited in mice. 3) CuSO_4 induced vomiting was inhibited by high dose in grogs. 4) Free acidity, pepsin activity and gastric juice secretion were inhibited, and remarkable suppressions of gastric ulceration was observed in rats. 5) Intestinal smooth muscle contraction induced by acetlycholine, histamine and BaCl_2 were depressed, and remarkable inhibition of isolated intestinal motility was also observed.
